Preparing for Hajj: A Practical Checklist

Hajj asks a great deal of the body and the spirit, and a little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your focus where it belongs — on your worship, not on logistics you forgot to sort out at home.

Start with your documents. Your passport should have at least six months' validity beyond your travel dates, and your Hajj visa paperwork should be finalised well ahead of departure — our team handles the visa processing itself, but we'll need accurate passport details from you early. You'll also need a photo meeting the Nusuk platform's exact specification (200×200px, plain white background) — our free Hajj Photo Tool crops, whitens, and resizes one for you in seconds, right in your browser.

Health matters too. Speak to your GP about recommended vaccinations for travel to Saudi Arabia, and if you take regular medication, bring enough for the full trip plus a few extra days, along with a copy of your prescription.

Pack light, and pack for practicality. Ihram garments, comfortable sandals that are easy to slip on and off, a small bag for daily essentials, and a reusable water bottle will serve you better than anything decorative. Many pilgrims find a simple pouch worn under clothing useful for keeping documents and money secure while performing the rites.

Finally, prepare mentally. Read about the rites in advance so each stage feels familiar rather than overwhelming, and give yourself permission to move at a measured pace — this is a once-in-a-lifetime journey, not a race.

Nusuk Hajj Alliance UK is managed by an alliance of three companies, including My Travel World — between us, we handle the parts of preparation that are easiest to get wrong from a distance, so this checklist is one you can lean on us for, not just work through alone.
