Getting Around: Walking Distances and Transport Between the Holy Sites
31 August 2026
One of the most common questions we get from first-time pilgrims is simply: how much walking is this? The honest answer is — more than most people expect, so it's worth planning for rather than discovering on the day.
Within Mina, the Haram is roughly a mile's walk, and a full tawaf circuit covers somewhere between 1.8 and 3 miles depending on how close to the Kaaba you're able to walk. From the Haram to the Jamarat is around 3 miles, and Muzdalifah to Mina is about 2 miles — distances that add up quickly across the days of Hajj, especially in heat and crowds.
Good walking sandals, broken in well before you travel, make more difference than almost anything else you pack. Stay hydrated throughout, and don't hesitate to perform salah where you are — including at the roadside — if that's where you find yourself when the time comes rather than trying to push on to somewhere more convenient.
On the days of Rami specifically, there's typically no official transport provided, so the walk to and from the Haram, and between Mina, Jamarat, and Muzdalifah, is done on foot as a matter of course. Expect roadblocks and organised crowd control at busy times — this is normal, not a sign that something has gone wrong.
Our group leaders coordinate transport and timing around these walking sections throughout the trip, so you're never trying to work out logistics alone in an unfamiliar place — that's exactly the kind of thing we're there to handle.
